E-gold question

I have just opened an e-gold account, but I don't really understand how it works. I've read the FAQ's and a bunch of forums online relating to this topic, but I haven't found a clear answer yet. If anyone would care to explain this to me, I would be very greatful. Questions: How do you transfer funds in and out? What's the advantage of having e-gold?
