How to keep your kids interested?

The 1st few years homeschooling was a lot of fun. We would do a lot of field trips, then go home and study. The field trips brought the History they were learning alive. We would dress up and act out, make things in history. We also would play a board game I would make up at the end of the week to see how much they were learning. But last year my mom got sick and I have had to be the main person to take care of her, plus they are getting older. My little girl is the only one still wanting to do a lot of the fun things. My oldest likes the games and field trips (We can't do much of because of mom), but the other stuff he is not. I'm working on another game plan this year, but wanted to here some of your ideas.
