Have anyone of you read A Thousand Splendid Sun by Khaled Hosseini. I highly recommend this book to all book lovers. At first I hesitated about reading this book since the setting is in Afghanistan and thought I might be bored, but it turned out to be an engaging read and a real eye-opener. Prior to reading this novel, I know a little about Afghanistan, only what I see in news, the wars and so on. This book gives a peak into the life of the people in that country especially the woman and the strict rules that they have to follow. The story centers on two women, one who was born unwanted from the start and didn't have a chance to choose her own future and one who was born with parents who give her freedom but circumstances prevent her from choosing the life she wants. Their lives became intertwined beyond their control.

Great book. I, too, learned a lot about Afghanistan that I never knew. Though the story is fiction, it is set in a realistic background. If you liked this you should read The Kite Runner, also by Khaled Hosseini. It is the story of a boy coming of age, and is very moving. He is a very talented author.

I'd really love to read The Kite Runner but my cousin said they are making a movie out of it so maybe I will just wait for the movie to be released.

There is a movie, but the book is always better. A movie cannot replace a good book.

I really enjoyed Khaled Hosseini's the kite runner but i havent explored his books beyond that. I think i may revist his work as you make it sound really enticing.
