I'm just wondering have anyone of you travellers ever stayed in a bed and breakfast type of accommodation? How was your experience, is it comfortable, were the host/hostess nice and helpful or just trying to get more money from you?

I have just come home from a trip to Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia. I went there with my baby son. We stayed in a few different bed and breakfasts because we traveled to a variety of different destinations. The first one that we stayed in was in Riga, the capital city of Latvia. I thought it was expensive and nothing special. The next one that we stayed in was in Tallinn, capital of Estonia. I really liked it there. The hostess looked after my baby son every time that I had a shower. I thought that she was kind to do this. The room was lovely with lots of detail and posh furniture. Then we stayed in a bed and breakfast in a coastal town in Estonia. The room was huge and the host gave us a lift to the bus station on departure. I thought that the price of the room was expensive. When we got back to Riga i spoke to a man in the tourist information about choosing a different bed and breakfast. He found us a wonderful place and it was of reasonable cost. I was really happy with that accommodation. In my home country bed and breakfast is a common sort of accommodation that I like staying in from time to time.

Every bed and brakfast that we have ever stayed in has been great, and the owners have been lovley and welcoming too..the key to a good bed and breakfast is just that..good hospitality.we have always had a good breakfast, the full english, followed by toast and marmalade, and the beds have always been comfortable,so we have had positive experiences.

Last year I stayed at two different ones while in England. The first one was in Cheddar. It was a great little place out on a farm and it was the biggest room we had. The bathroom was HUGE! The family that owns it was very nice and helpful. You can tell they take great care of the place. The other one...not so great! It was in Warwick. Our room was actually part of the attic. It was FREEZING! My mom called to ask about the heat and the owner said he turns it off at a certain time but it will come back on later. It never did. This was on a day when the temperature had dropped and it had been snowing and sleeting all day. I had to sleep in layers of clothing, including gloves. Breakfast wasn't all that great as well. Also, when we went out, we had to leave the key to our room. We thought that was a bit odd and that anyone could get in. I'm glad we only stayed one night! When I was a teenager, my parents and I stayed at one a few hours from us in Texas. They had taken the barn and turned into two rooms. It had a nice cozy feel and big bathtubs with the claw feet. It was a really nice place.

Most of my B&B experiences have been grand. Most of the time I prefer a B&B unless I think I'm going to be a bit noisy.
