Your Doctor telling you...You Have Cancer!

No matter what kind or where it is on your body Cancer is Cancer. I was misdiagnosed by a doctor. She told me I had a 'skin herpes'. My first thought was......but I am not sexually active. You see it was on my right thumb and the Cancer had gotten to the fourth stage before someone finally did something. How? Why? And I had it for about three years already. My thumb was 90% removed and reconstructed with a graft from my inner upper right arm. I had three surgeries. I have no function in my thumb. Yes it can come back. This was in Nov. 2005. Being a hairdresser, that part of my life is over. The simplest things are the hardest now. I am very self-conscious as people still ask questions. I take nothing for granted as life is to presious.

I am so sorry you had to go through that. Life is a series of changes, some we initiate and some we have no control over. Of course if we pick the change it is easier accepted and dealt with. Your thumb should not make you self-conscious it is after all a testament to the fact that you fought (you could have given up) and are beating cancer, it shows your courage and spirit in the face of the fight for your life. When people ask questions just tell them you are not comfortable talking about it and move on. If they persist tell them you got it in a fight(you really did) that you won.

What kind words. But, do I worry? Sure I do. It is just a fact of life. We all have hurdles to get past and I guess this was the BIG one for me. It has sure changed my way of thinking about life and what is and is not important.
