Fillers in anime: how do you feel about them?

Filler episodes, just like what the name means, are episodes that fill up anime episodes, either to join two different arcs, to lengthen the story or like the ones in bleach & naruto to allow the source manga advance further. How do you feel about them? Are they as good as the main or canonical story? For me, I don't really like them but I don't hate them either. I like extra stories, as long as they don't interfere or contradict the main storylines. Though sometimes they're a bit pointless. So, tell me what you guys feel about them.

Fillers are tolerable if they'd stay that way--as fillers. They are absolutely annoying when they become an entire series by themselves. *cough*Naruto*cough. That was over a year's worth of fillers. SHEESH.

Hah! I guess everyone here shares the same sentiment over those fillers in Naruto. Thanks for responding.

For me it depends on the actual content of the filler. Like right now with Bleach, I can't stand it. The filler storyline is horrible, boring, and repetitive. At times like this I can't wait for the source material to be reinstated. On the other hand, there are some fillers which I don't mind like Naruto. The Naruto filler right now is entertaining and brings in a new aspect to the saga. (I don't read the manga, so I don't know if the current shippuuden anime is filler or not). Fillers just depend on thier storyline.

I like the current filler in Naruto too, because they're expanding Asuma sensei's past & character, giving him more focus before he...ok, no spoilers. Those who read the manga would already know what'll happen. So, this filler arc should be enjoyed before...nuff said.

Yeah, fillers do make the producers richer, at the expense of the viewers. I like long stories, some of which I don't want to end, but putting fillers in the middle make the experience a little less entertaining. Thanks for the response.

IF they're good I'm okay with it. the problem is that when an anime is based on manga and creators feels they don't have enough of original material they tend do some pointless episodes that don't even have the vibe of the series. And that's what I don't approve:/ BTW, Sagara on your icon is love:P

Thanks, I like Sagara because he's very funny without even trying. I do agree fillers don't have the same strength as the original material, but it's even more disheartening when changes are made to the original story because of fillers, additional characters for example. Thanks for the responses.

If they are only rare episodes, then I can handle it, but when they go on a parade, putting on more than one every few months, it starts getting really irritating. I'm watching the show for the story, not to sit around watching something pointless.

Speaking about pointless, I think flashback episodes are really annoying too. Like in Gundam Seed, there's always flashbacks in the normal episodes that sometimes I find them very tedious, and then they would have filler episodes full of flashbacks, which is quite pointless for me. Thanks for the response.

its ok for me. they do this so that anime won't catch up to the manga.

It really depends on the filler episode to me. I mean if the episode is sort of going along with the plot or I really like the side story going on, then I'll like the episode. But on the other hand if the episode makes the characters go off on a tangent and they are going stuff that either makes no sense, or has nothing to do with the main story like, then the episode will start to annoy me.

It should be ok for me, as long as they are as entertaining as the real story was. But that is not the case, some or most of the fillers I've watched are very boring. I don't know how they managed to make those kind of wastes. To think that some of my favorite shows suffers from this, I went to just reading manga.

Sometimes fillers get too dragging that it makes an anime boring. I just hope that if they do fillers it would only be good for 10-30 eps not really 100 or so.

Fillers are realy annoying. They completly stop the plot and anything else intresting to air some garbage to fill up time. Bleach fillers are the WORST, infact bleach started a filler arc that will take up some time. D=
