So, I used to be really involved in church. I was one of the most religious people you could ever have hoped to meet. Then, I began dating a new guy, and I just didn't feel like I should be going to church anymore, because I wasn't really trying to live the life. Since I have been away from church, I have really been thinking aboutthe purpose of life a lot. And I have realized that being in church all that time really messed up my mentality and my view of myself. Because of so much time in church, I thought I was one of the most unworthy, sinful people. So, if church does that, is it really even worth going at all?

It probably depends on which church you attend. If you are attending a church that is not uplifting for you, then it is probably time to choose a different congregation or possibly even change churches. It is not really a good idea to be a member of any group that makes you feel like you are not able to be yourself, or that you have to "live a life" for.

I don't think that I know any religion that uplifts you unless you conform to their ways.

There are several religions that are designed to accept people as they are. For instance, universalist associations are designed for people with different belief, and many of them also have courses for you to define your own beliefs. What I was referring to is finding a church where what you believe and how you act is more in line with the standards of other people in the congregation so that you fit in. There are defiantly liberal churches.

You were just a religious person, you depend on man made activities and traditional in the Church. Are you among the people who are at the crossroads? Nicodemus in the Bible never new this for many years and he was a religious leader, that is why he look for Jesus to ask for his future, he was a Pharisee, a good man who had dedicated his life to trying to please God. He had dutifully adhered to the jewish law in an attempt to satisfy God's standard of righteousness. But according to Jesus, Nicodemus needed a spiritual birth. Each of us has the opportunity to have our spiritual birth through faith in Christ.

Yes, it is still worth going to church. When you feel unworthy and sinful, be grateful. The enemy only attacks those that are trying to live a holy life. Get your Bible out and read it everyday, even if it's only 15 minutes a day, and let God speak to you and give you encouragement to face that day. Learn about spiritual warfare and how to live a victorious life. I would rather live like there is a God and die and find out there's not, than to live like there is not a God and die and find out there is. I have been a christian for 35 years. I was raised in church with my grandfather and father being preachers. I joined the church when I was 12, and was baptised. Everytime I went to church, I felt like something was missing and rededicated my life about once a month. When I was 25, I realized I had never really given my life to the Lord so that's when I was truly born again. You can't rededicate something that has never been dedicated in the first place. My life has not been the same since then. I couldn't have gone through the tough times I have been through, if it were not for my faith and trust in the Lord Jesus Christ. Keep on believing and live for God. It is truly worth it in the long run. God bless you.
