What does "friend" mean to you?

With all the networking sites available, like mylot and facebook - where you add people to your network and call them a "friend", have we started to lose the meaning of the word? Not that I think poorly of my cyber-buddies, but are they really friends? I feel that if I don't even know their real name, or their face, how can they be a friend? Some of them are, but certainly not all of them. A friend is someone I can trust and I can lean on in times of need, and someone who comes to me when they are in need, or just for companionship. What does Friendship mean to you?

I have different friends for different situations. I think that many of my friends online are true friends. They stick with me when I need them, and they are good to bounce ideas off of. That said, my real life friends are the ones I would consider to be my "best" friends. I think there are different levels just as there are different levels of love. My online friends are just in a different category than my real life friends, but all of them are friends.

That's a good way of describing it, and I feel the same way.

I really don't have any online friends, i have a handful offline that I rarely see. I have been trying to make friends, I mean real friends that you would do anything for. I used to have a bestfriend but that went sour years ago. So I beleive in the traditional friendship and am actively looking for real friends.
