I am just wondering how many of you here see failure as an opportunity to grow??? I just read a book "If you want to walk on water, you've got to get out of the boat" by John Ortberg and he describes failure as an indispensable, irreplaceable part of learning and growth... He also mentions that failure does not shape us; the way we respond to failure shape us... We know that failure is an inevitable part of our life and i also had experienced many failures in my life... So how many of you had learn and grown from failures and do you agree that if we never experience failure in our lives, then we will be stagnant and never grow??? Please do share your failure experiences too that shape your life here if you may so that we can learn from one another... thanks in advance for responding and have a nice day everybody...

I believe and agree about that....In life, everything is dull and less exciting when people just get what they want all the time...It sounds wonderful but in reality, it will make people be more dependent and less innovative... When I finish College, I tried very hard to be employed in our City but I was never hired..I accepted the offer by our Dean to work in another province which is far from my place...I was sad at first since all of my close friend got a job right away but for me I have to travel far just to be employed..Those experiences taught me a lot in life, being far from my parents, sister and friends and stranger in a place made me realized my strength..I spent one year there and I would say, it was one of the best experienced I had in my life!

thanks for responding... i completely agree with you... it is when you dare to take a step forward and get out from the boat to walk on water then your life will be more fulfilling... i believe that that one year experiences being away from your family shape you to become a more independent and stronger person now... take care and have a nice day...

ideally we should learn from failure. some people aren't teachable and will not learn. i certainly want to learn so that i can do better. there's a saying, chalk one up for experience. and unfortunately we seem to learn better from the negative than the positive.

thanks for responding... yes... it is easier for us to learn negative things than positive ones in this sinful world... it takes forever to learn good things but it just takes one second to learn bad things from other people... whatever they are, i hope that we will learn from those experiences and grow... take care and have a nice day...

We all have problems and trials. It is how we react to them that makes us the people we are. I do try to learn from my problems and trials. That does not mean I have to enjoy them but I would rather learn from them than become bitter as a result of them.

this discussion reminds me a saying when i was a kid. i was trying to learn to bike on my own. older people say you can do that. but they say "you can't learn it unless you experience a crash". i don't think this will fit in this discussion, i am just reminded of the saying in learning the bikes. KEEP SMILING= NEIL

thanks for the response... what you say is absolutely right... you can't learn to ride a bicycle unless you experience a fall... from there, then you will grow and learn... that's what the book that i read is all about when it says that we have to get out from the boat if we want to walk on the water... it is about taking risk and learning something new... take care and have a nice day...

I think you definitely have to look at failure as a means to grow and mature. Otherwise you'll just keep repeating the same pattern of behavior that caused you to fail in the first place. You have to evaluate the situation and move forward, not just run around like a dog chasing his tail! I had a failed marriage. But instead of looking at it like "oh whoa is me, I failed" and looked at it as an opportunity for personal growth. Looking back, I see it as one of the best times of my life because of the growth that was attained. Had it not been for that failure, I may not have grown into the person I am now. And I'm happy with who I am.

In my own opinion and my oen expereinces I believe in a saying that We learn from our mistakes", because we really learn from our experiences weather it is a success or a failure. I am a failure I admit that, having hard time to graduate in college in so much time. I was being expelled from school. But long years can change ones personality, we have our own mind to think for ourselves. We can do whatever we believe in if we just believe in ourselves. Thank you for your good discussion and I hope we can be good friends here in mylot forever.

i once read that there are not bad or god things...only the way we think make's them god or bad...it is hard for me to see failure as a chance to grow. If i loose an exam how can i grow? Maybe i won't commit the same mistake again, but i always do. I havn't yet learned to look at my mistakes like a chance to grow.

I think that failure is not such a bad thing. There are always a lot of lessons that you learn from failure. As long as the lessons are not lost in you, you can actually turn your failure into a stepping stone for success. just think about all the things that you can learn when you are down... Yeah, failure hurts a lot but then again, success is even better after you failed.

This is a great topic ling! I am one of the ones who feels that failure is an opportunity to grow. When you are striving toward success in any venture, failure is what separates those who will succeed from those that won't. That is true because those who are successful will see that as an indicator that their current plan isn't working, and its time to revise that plan, where as those who are failure conscious will see that as a reason to stop trying. In striving to earn a substantial income on the internet, I am one of the ones who see failure as an opportunity to grow. I have met with failure many times, and the only thing that happened in that was that I knew that I had to try something else. It has not shaken my belief that I can earn a substantial income on the internet, it just kept me looking for the next plan that will do that for me.

Success and failure are very important discussions and we can certainly learn from failures as well as our successes. I doubt if there is anyone who has not experienced both. I think both are good and contribute to our growth as human beings.

Yes, me too had experienced failures in my life..that lead me to learn and grow. With this experiences we've learned that we get wiser each day, we decide and struggle and somehow we begin to understand that we have the power to make each day better than yesterday...We have God so loving and inspiring who heals the pain and keep us going strong.
