okay to cry - I just cry.. a lot.
i draw. and it's funny - i do my BEST work when i am depressed! but i also become very withdrawn. I have PTSD - post-traumatic stress disorder, and i have been on anti-depressants and anti-anxiety meds for about 2 years... nonetheless has not helped, especially when a life-changing scenario occurs (loss of friends due to things i cannot control, break-up with boyfriend, etc)... i wish there were other ways to deal but i have not been successful as of yet in finding a way to cope.

Hi nikkisawesome416,thanks for your response to this discussion which I started. You are a painter! That is good to know.Yes,obviously doing your favorite will abstain you from thinking about those things in a regular manner.

Keep myself busy or do the things I love. Sometimes I listen to music or read books. But if those things doesn’t work, I would call my friends to go to mall or hangout in our favorite place and talk for hours. If I’m really depressed I grab my camera and go somewhere to take pictures. It’s very relaxing for me.

Hmmppp... Relax yourself first and think of happy thoughts. depression my bring no good to you.You must treat yourself like going out for mall or shopping maybe, watch movies, hanging out with friends which will keep yourself busy. Think of things which are useful. Spend time with yourself or your family. Open up to someone whom you trusted it will help ease the pain a bit.

et up and exercise program and stick to it, even if only walking for 20 minutes or so. Journal your feelings to help you work them through. Establish a treatment program with your dr and stick with it. Check your diet and add fruits to it like apples, grapes and bananas. Volunteer somewhere, even if just for a short time. You will do some hard work (maybe) but it will build your confidence back up and earn some references for you. You will feel better about yourself once you can see what you can do. Do nice things for yourself, make a point of it and remember you deserve it. Have friends and family involved and ready to give moral support.

When I am depressed, I find it to be a vicious cycle. I get so depressed that I stop doing things that I enjoy and I stop spending time on myself. I also tend to get in a rut. For example, if I am depressed in the morning when getting ready for work, I tend to throw on the first thing at hand and not wear much makeup, etc. I also tend to cancel hair appointments, etc. That takes a toll on my appearance which, in turn, tends to depress me even more. I try to remind myself to keep doing things that I enjoy and also to try to make myself look as though I am feeling better. That may sound crazy, but when I look better, I tend to feel better. Actually, a friend of mine told me that years ago when I was in college, but I still need to remind myself of it when I am depressed.

drowning myself in music has helped many times. sometimes a movie i like or watching tv helps too. it takes your mind off things and can refresh you.

the best thing to do when you are depressed is to think of the happy moments you have had, and avoid people or things that reming you of your failure

This is a tough one...I've been dealing with depression for a long time now. I first started to notice it when I was a freshman in highschool, but I know it had been going on since before then. Im not really sure what is the best way to come out of it. I am bad about isolating myself away from people. And I also sleep alot. My old therapist said that it's ok to sleep off depression, but I dont know. It just makes me feel like im always running away from it. But anyhow, I think I feel the most depressed when Im tired. So when I start to feel myself get like that, I just throw on my iPod and go to bed.
