are newspapers really worth getting?

I think I am going to cancel our newspaper subscription. I have found that by the time I get the paper in the morning, whatever is in it is old news and I flip through it for a minute and toss it. With the internet and 24 hour news channels, it seems like a waste (and we can no longer recycle them here but that is another complaint). Wouldn't we do better to save some trees and just look up news on your favorite site (even most newspapers have a site that has the same things in their paper and its free)? The only thing I can't figure out is how I'm going to get the comics.

I would love to cancel my newspaper subscriptions...(yeah, we get two morning papers) but my husband is old school and just would never do it. I am like you, in that with the internet and the 24 hour news channels I wouldn't feel like I was missing anything and they have more "up to the minute" coverage with the news anyway. Plus both of the papers we get are available to read online. Ok...never say never...this conversation has motivated me to "encourage" my husband "on a daily basis" (translation...yes I will bug him...ha) to drop the subscriptions.... With the above mentioned info, together with the environmental aspect and the money he will save.....it should be a no brainer...we shall see.

I do admit, I was one of those who liked to read the paper while I ate breakfast. Now I just talk to my kids and check the news on-line when they are at school. Let everyone know if you ended up cancelling or not!

We pick one up on Sunday -- the double edition -- for the coupons. The coupons pay for the newspaper a couple of times over each week (can we say $1.20 off of eggs?), so it's worth it. Getting the daily paper isn't a good investment, for us, and we end up with stacks of newspaper before we get around to dragging them to the bin for recycling. If our local stores accepted printable coupons, I'd be happy to give up my Sunday paper, but they don't. If I want to read the news, online is completely acceptable and I'm happy to miss my fingers getting blackened with ink!

I can't believe a store won't accept printable coupons, that does not seem right. I am the queen of coupons but have found that I can get the same ones on-line as I get in the paper.

It depends on. If you don't have computer with internet at home, then perhaps it's still better to buy newspaper. If not, I don't think it's very necessary to buy newspaper. I don't buy newspaper or even magazines any more because I can find quite a lot of source via the net easily. My mom isn't interested in computer, so she buys newspaper anyway. I love China

I don't see why someone would buy a newspaper if they have access to the internet. A lot of people still can't access the internet, and in that case it can make sense to get a newspaper. But if you can access it, the internet has the daily stories for most of the newspapers, and you don't have to pay for each paper. Newspapers are on their way out. The only reason they still survive is because a lot of people still have trouble with access to the internet. When that changes, newspapers will be rare.

Hi! Yeah you are right about that and we dont buy newspapers anymore since last year. My parents get their daily dose of news on tv and I get mine through the internet. On tv mostly but Im on the internet most of the day so I can just browse through there. Good thing about it is that it sometimes updates hourly or at least when there's a hot topic and new posts are added as they arrive. With the comics, you can just go online or maybe buy a comics digest and collect them or something. I dont read comics that much anymore since the ones I read come with the paper. If you really still want to read them, go online. There are lots of new ones everyday and lots of comics to choose from. but then again, when you're online Im guessing you'll forget about the comics and browse other stuff that would interest you. Whatever you decide, goodluck!^_^
