Since you live in China, you have no choice but try your best to be the best. Due to China's huge population, the competition is very severe. Everyone has to struggle when he or she is a little child. Our parents often tell us, if we could not be admitted into a good primary school, then could not be admitted into a good middle school, then could not be admitted into a good university, which means we could not find a good job. So we're forced to study and study. We could not change this society, so why not adapt ourselves to it?

I'm actually quite impressed with your school system there, though I would be honest and tell you that I do not think I can withstand that kind of pressure. I'm sorry to say that my knowledge of your school system is limited only to the documentaries I've seen, but I think it's so much harder than our school system here in the Philippines. The one thing probably I would not be able to stand aside from the intense pressure to excel is the long hours in school. I think I once saw a documentary that you guys go to school as early as 6:30am to do individual reviews, and then go back to school again after dinner, or something like that. Back in high school I thought we had it bad. I am from a Chinese school as well here in the Philippines, and we went to school from 7:30am to 5:20pm and we were already complaining because most other schools in our city did not get off that late. My relations in the US are in high school now, they got it easy. They go to school at 8:30 or 9 and get off as early as 3. I can't believe it myself.

Yes,chinese students do not have much rest and recreation.Only China is a developing country, the education system is not perfect,I believe this situation will get better in the future.

Hi becky, welcome to mylot and enjoy your stay here. I don't know nothing about education in China and the high school life in China. Study is a good thing and you must do that to learn. But I can't believe that you cannot have a spare time to enjoy life. We always find a way to have some free time to do what we like to do. You are here in mylot in you free time isn't it? Here you can have fun. So if you have some free time you can do other things also. Have a bf/gf is easy if both study in the same school, you can find a time to stay with your bf/gf. But if someone is serious about his future it is the same in all the world: study, study and study. . Keep cool because the time goes fast and you will miss this time some day. Cheers and welcome.
