Which Alien movie was the best? Do you like the Alien vs. Predator movies?

When Alien 4, Resurrection came out, it was definitely my favorite movie. Very cold and gritty like the original. Not slick or over produced like Alien 2. But then they started coming out with the new Alien vs. Predator series. And, I really like it. The only part that I don't like? There's no central human characters. Like in the original movie, you had Ripley and she was in each movie. Most of the cast in the AVP movies are expendable. When you bond with a character, they get killed. What's your favorite Alien movie and why? What could producers do to make the Alien vs. Predator series better?

Ok, I think that they were doing good up til like you said they left the main character out. Now when they did the one with them in the Aliens V/S Predator 1; with the temple and Sanay laytham was the only one that survived. In that one she faught back and make a friend with the Predator because she was seen as a warrior. The had no idea what was in that temple and none of them cam out. This one was more like the first one. She didn't bond with the Alien but the Predator. They should have carried it over with her living in the small town; that the Aliens came to and her helping them fight the aliens off. That would have at least brought some closure to what happened to her after she survived the temple blowing up and the Alien falling in the ice water. Now like you said they might be starting a new story line for the next one. The new Alien V/S Predator was different they mixed the Predator and Alien genes together and came up with a super Alien. That was really cool but still they ended it. They blew up the town and the three that survive should be in the next one. If they come with another one. What do you think will they come with another one? Also if you remember the end of the movie who was the lady that was talking to the man in the suite that had the briefcase? What was that about.

Alien, the first one, was definitely the best. The fact that the crew was trapped on this ship in the middle of space while the alien picked them off one by one, is what made the movie so intense and suspenseful and gave it that horror movie feel. Then, I would have to say the second movie is the next best of the series. It lost a little of the horror feel but the choice of actors and some of the dialogue gave the movie some humor and made it fun to watch while still providing some suspense. After that, I'm afraid the movies went down hill fast in my opinion. I feel the first two movies told the story well enough. The stories in the second two were weak and pointless when compared to 1 and 2. They just seemed to be a poor attempt at "dragging" the story on. As for AVP, I haven't seen the second one but I have the first AVP, and I must say that I was pretty disappointed. I agree that there should be a central character like Ripley in the original series. But, also, the aliens didn't have that horrific, larger than life appearance that they had in Alien 1 and 2. I didn't like the premise that the aliens where bred by the predators as "game" to hunt. I think a better idea for bringing the two "villians" together could've been found. And last but not least, I didn't like the idea that the predator at the end "befriends" the one remaining human survivor to defeat the aliens. The way the original Alien and Predator movies portray their respective "villians", I just don't think that sort of alliance would have occurred.

Alien was a cinematic classic; there's a reason it's in the top 50 all time greatest movies on IMDB. At a time when everyone else was following Star War's lead, Ridley Scott gave us something quite different. Aliens, equally, was good stuff, but you wouldn't expect much else from James Cameron. Alien 3 was one of the most rubbish films I've ever been forced to sit through, despite Paul McGann's best efforts as male lead. I have a hard time believing they had a perfectly good script from William Gibson in their hands (which you can find online all over the place), but instead they decided to go with the sub-Blake's 7 quality script they used. I'm afraid that one soured me on the franchise; I've not seen Alien 4, or the AvP series, and have no real intention of doing so, unless Mike Nelson and the gang do a rifftrax commentary for it. So, out of the ones I've seen, I'd have to say the first. :)

Thank you for finally voicing what so many fans felt about Alien 3. Honestly, I thought it was just me. It should have been a good film, but was not. I have only seen parts of it. But even that part was painful. Why! For the love of all that is decent and good, how could they mutilate the series in such a way.

I love the original Alien as it gave a new meaning in suspense movie. But Alien 2's hardwares and firepower is just too much for me to ignore. I've seen all alien series unfortunately up to this date I haven't seen any AVP movie yet. The priority movies here in our house are all kid stuff and mine is somewhere buried with all their request.

Hello beautyqueen26, I like Alien movies too, all of them. I like Predator too. But unfortunately, I don't like Alien vs. Predator series. They are not good and not worth watching. The worst is definitely Alien vs. Predator 2. I just hate that movie.

I liked the one that had the little girl who was the only survivor. I think that was Alien 2? It was interesting to see Ripley bonding with her. Then there was the one (Alien 4) where she came back half alien on a science ship I think. That one was pretty cool the way she was so tough and not quite human. I love scifi movies and especially anything with aliens or critters in them. LOL My mom was the same way - her and I would watch them together. She got me hooked at a very young age when she took me at the age of 5 to watch "The Blob." Looking back it wasn't all that scary watching a big piece of purple bubble gum. LOL But at the time it sure scared me!

Aliens has to be my favorite out of the four movies. Alien is a tad to underdeveloped in my opinion. I believe there are shots in the movie where you can see the people in the alien costume. Don't get me wrong, Alien is a great flick but Aliens is the best out of the bunch. As far as the Aliens vs. Predator thing goes... Well, it's a popcorn flick at best and a low-grade cheesy special effects movie at its worst. I watched both of the movies in the theaters and enjoyed them for what they were. They made me laugh, they made me cry (they were bad), and they made me want to never see them again, unless I had some friends over for Mystery Theater 3000 night. Then of course they would be up there with Jason X, Gigli, and Showgirls.

I have to agree with you here. Ripley was what held the movies together as you held on to the seat to see how she got out safe. The first movie was the best followed by the forth. I really did not care much for two and three. I like the Alien verse predator movies but as you said there is no central character for you to grasp hold of and follow through the store. The last on I had a hard time telling which one was which when they were fighting.

First of all, have you read any of the books? Some of the books reallt take you in deep into the mind of the creatures. That alone gives you anunderstanding of the AVP movies that makes them only so so. In the books, the alien queen is nothing to be trifled with. She has the intellect of a team of super-geniuses and skin like a tank! The predators are equally as dangerous, but the movie kind of does an ok job of showing what it would really be like. So to me the movie was kind of over-hyped. I personally like the first Alien movie and could watch it over and over again. It was great!

Aliens. It is rare that a remake is better than the original but james Cameron manages to one up Ridley Scott. While Ridley Scott's movie was a sci-fi version of "And then there were None", Cameron gives the franchise the action jolt it needed. And quitge frankly, the hairs on the back of my neck stood up as the camera slowly panned over showing the Queen Alien.

I liked the first Alien movie. I liked the character of Ripley as well as the little girl. I think you make an excellent point about having central human characters and this may be why I prefer Alien to all the Alien movies that followed.
