I live in a military town and everyone here has someone their missing. Do you have anyone serving in Iraq? My brother's in the Army and is deployed 15 months.

Jasy, I do not have anyone in my immediate family serving in Iraq. I was in the Army (and if I weren't medically discharged would probably be in Iraq right now) and made a family of my own with friends that I made there. I have plenty of military family in Iraq right now and I have quite a few leaving in November. I pray every day that they remain safe because they made it further than I could. I will also keep your brother in my prayers. Please remember to thank him every day for what he is doing for this country every day. Thank you for the post :D

Wow. Thank you so much! He's like all the other soldiers over there though, when you thank them, they just blush and say, "i'm just doing my job." They have no idea how much they mean to us. :-)

I know exactly how it is. You could also send your appreciation in care packages for your brother and/or other troops. Put articles of things that are going on in your town or your brother's town in a box to send to him to keep him up to date about things that are still going on here and help him think of home. Send him some stationary so that he can write to you and tell you what is going on over there or write to him to help him think of something else besides what he is doing. All soldiers will tell you that they are "just doing their job". They all see it as an every day job and not something heroic. But we see them as heroes. Thanks for the response :D

My father was a civilian contractor and he spent 8 months over there when things had just started rolling. He went back for 6 months a year ago and the conditions were pretty posh, he said. He was over there when civilian contractors were the big victims, so it was a constant thing to worry about when they shut down communication to the bases. *hugs* to you and your family. Hope your brother makes his way home safely.

I'm glad your father made it back safe & sound. Seems like the civilian contractors kind of get forgotten over there, doesn't it? In reality though, they're in just as much danger as the troops. Thanks for the good wishes for my brother.

I don't anymore, but my son served three tours. I was in the Marine Corps for more than 21 years myself and his Dad was for 26, so I know all about deployments.

You sure do know about deployments! My Dad was a Marine so I dealt with it my entire childhood too. It stinks.
