Do people read the discussion guidelines???

I see so many repeat topics posted (mostly I notice the ones that i've posted about like a month ago) and I'm wondering if people read the guidelines cause it says in there to search the topics and make sure your topic hasn't already been started. I think it's pretty annoying seeing repeat topics started, don't you?

My problem has not been to starting repeat discussions.. My problem has been to realising how many times I am responding to repeat discussions without realising it as I wade through and respond as accurately and quickly as I can. I do not have the best of short term memory do to being a human lightning rod :) ... I am doing my best to wade through I notice alot of my number is dropping and I realised posts I go to read again that were repeats are being deleted.. so if they catching it after my post then that is good, as long as they are able to weed them all out. I am doing my best to follow guidelines.... I just feel stupid to realise I was tagging things wrong at first, and that I did not discover the mylot search box sooner.. Well thanks all! :). - DNatureofDTrain

As a new user I can say I am pretty frustrated actually. There is such a long list of guildelines that I don't know how someone could possibly understand all of them in less than 24 hours. I hope they don't kick me off of here, but instead make the guidelines easier to understand. Each point needs further explanation in my opinion.

I don't get the highest post in topics because i don't do the put a number here and i give a + type topics. I am more content with making valid topics that nobody else has done and that i know won't be deleted. A few topics i made my first week on mylot just recently got allot of post. I wish they wouldn't have though because now those aren't the kinda topics i would post. Also when i first joined there were no guidelines so people don't have an excuse now. Mylot should start giving warnings and banning people because money doesn't fall off trees and i don't wanna see this site go broke.

You're right though, they should give warnings. Instead they just deduct money or rating points without even letting people know why or what they are doing it for!

Someone just posted this same question a few minutes ago. I bet they did not use the search feature. In the discussion they admitted that they have not read the guidelines. People like that should be kicked.

I posted this when they first changed MyLot. I didn't even notice that was posted. I was just going through my profile responding to my responses. Thank you. :)

I don't think so. i have been just trying to post to other topics and have not had the time to start many... but i have noticed the same questions over and over. sometimes it is annoy, but sometimes I have to just sit back and laugh, because we are answering the same question that we did a few weeks ago.

I don't ever really find it funny when it's something I posted already. Thank you for your response.

I really do find it annoying. It's even more annoying when you see two nearly-identical threads right behind each other.

Well when I see a topic that I have already posted about I go find mine and bring it forward to let them know a topic about that has already been started. I think some people will read the topic of someone elses and take part of it and try to start another topic that is basically talking about the same thing. Thank you for your response.

I also have been noticing this... I have read them yesterday and now I am following the guidelines as good as I can. When I respond to a topic I make sure its relevant to it .. and notjust a Yes or No answer..

When I first joined I have to admit that I didn't realize I could do a search of topics before I started them. But it didn't take long to realize I needed to do that. But I also find it annoying to see the repeat topics and also to see the topics that can be answered with a yes or no or some other word and they are still being posted.

Like the ones that say type a name that starts with the letter S? I agree. I don't see how those ones get to stay when it's not a discussion. Thank you for your response.

No, I don't think people read anything anymore. People seem to want to be told what is right or wrong rather than to take the time to read the rules or the terms of use. If mylot was to enforce the rules tighter it would save space on the servers and keep the site neat, organized, and faster.

This is true! It says in there that repeat topics will be deleted but they don't delete them. Thanks for the response.

I've wondered that, too. Although the real garbage topics have been pretty much cleared out, the repeats just keep coming and coming. I get really tired of reading through the same old same old searching for something new to talk about. There are millions of topics out there. People just need to think a little harder and do a search before they post.

I can tell you that I have read them and I am following them! :) I want to profit as much as I can. Oh well, if people don't read them.. it just means more for the ones who DO read the guidelines! Right? :) I agree, I am annoyed, seeing the same old posts... Another thing that annoys me is people who can spell use proper english!

It IS hard to respond to a post when you can't even figure out what they're trying to say! Thank you for your response.

It's possible that they do search first, but use the wrong word to search with and therefore don't find what they are looking for. Or possibly they want a newer perspective from the newer members, often people don't like to reply to older topics, especially if the original topic owner isn't around anymore... they may get annoying, but they don't harm us, skip them and go to the next topic.

I agree. I have done searches on this site and have not found what I was looking for. People don't always know which search terms to use, and I think that more seasoned users are too hard on newbies for that very reason.

I don't want to get anybody's bad side. But, I am a new user and to be honest I read the guidelines three times already. There are so many stipulations that it is hard to remember everything you can and cannot do. Like, I do not remember that it says you have to search the topics before you post a discussion. I am not meaning any harm. I am just a frustrated new user with alot of anxiety because now I am afraid of doing something wrong, and I am actually afraid now to even post new discussions.
