research tells us that people are happier and more productive when they have good friends at work, but the fact is, most of us don't. Being familiar with colleagues isn't always good thing. Do you agree?

No, I wouldn't say that I agree with you magicalangel because speaking from personal experience, it has been my colleagues at work that would make my day sometimes. I am going through a couple of things in my life right now and if it wasn't for the people I work with presently or the ones I used to work with last year, I don't know what I would have done. As a matter of fact, I developed not only a friendship with a particular woman but we developed a spiritual relationship too. Being familiar with colleagues in fact can be a very rewarding experience.

Yes, it does seem to work better if you have more good friends at work. Especially in stressful environments since they are the immediate people you can go to and confide in. They share mostly the same sentiments as we do since we're practically on the same boat. However, there will always be time when someone would be a little special than the others. Someone whom you always stay with on breaks and even while at work. But if the trust or the bond breaks, it may not be as good as a working environment as it was. They could even try to ruin us professionally and personally. We spend most of the day with them. As a team, we work together for a common goal. It's usually good to know them especially on social occasions or events. There will always be time to be friends with them especially when it's outside the office. As my manager told me before, "We did not apply and work here to make friends, we came here to do our jobs".

It depends on what your goals are and how you want to go about achieving them. I've noticed that being friendly with my colleagues has helped me grow along as a team. There are others who would keep their distance to concentrate only on their future and believe that you have to in a way step over others in order to acheive success.
