I have wanted to learn how to sew for years. I took Home Economics in Junior High, but we only made pillows. I got a new sewing machine in May and a pattern/material. I feel overwhelmed trying to figure it out. Is there something simple to make other than a pillow? What do you recommend?

when i was a little girl my grandmother taught me how to make a little stuffed teddy bear it was pretty simple and i finished it in no time trying to figure out how to work a new sewing machine can be rather confusing i remember trying to figure out how to operate my first one it took me forever to finally figure out around the area where i live there is a craft store called hobby lobby they offer all kinds of sewing classes so if you really want to get good at sewing i would try taking a class there

I took up sewing again, recently, too, so I know kinda what you mean. I'm still trying to pick out fabric to sew new shades for the house, but I've got a quiet machine in the meantime that I'm just itching to use! I recently sewed some spats for the dog to keep her from licking at her legs where they put some IVs in. I've also done a few little things, just to keep busy, like placemats and patching up old clothes. Placemats are easy to do and might get you back into the groove, if you're not confident in your skills, yet. Is there anything that you need to buy that you could sew yourself?

dear AmmeMarie39, I have just the thing for you! When I was young (like 11), I use to to make purses out of any peice of cloth! It was so much fun and only took a few hours by hand. And I use to give it to my cousins lol. They loved it. You make like little cellphone pouches!
