My mom was a traditional stay-at-home mom. She took the time to teach all of us to cook a variety of foods. She encouraged us to try new recipes. My dad taught us to cook outdoors also. Later, I taught my children. Now my oldest daughter is teaching her children.

I learned my cooking from my father. My father is the one who always cook for my family although my mother can cook but she seldom cook, lol. My father always cook simple dishes so end up I also know how to cook simple dishes only. But I am trying to create my own dishes from time to time, I always mix the ingredients that I think will taste good to make up a dish. Sometimes I will also refer to recipe book to cook something special.

I, basically, learned on my own. When my parents were at work, I'd play in recipe books and make things. My mom was a stay-at-home mom, most of my childhood, and she let us help her cook, sometimes. I learned a little from her, but most of my cooking skills developed when I moved out of the house and had to cook my own food and use ingredients on hand. Being able to cook for yourself really does improve your eating habits. I always made big, long, involved meals, but I learned to cut the recipes into smaller amounts and began cooking even more for myself.
