Do you still or have you ever made it a point to open a door for your Mother, date, friend, wife and or other. I went on a date and he got in the car and started it as I stood there. He asked me what was I doing and I responded....Waiting! He said waiting for what? Duuhhh...he shut the car off and came over and opened my door and apologized. Is Chivalry gone? Just curious.

Hi JTerrasi, You just made me laugh, I can just imagine you standing next to the car an waiting, his face must have been a picture he he. It so very sad these days that no men do that anymore, only the older generation, like I still see some elderley gentlemen still doffs the hats to a women an is was nice,so respect in the old days but the young people would just as slam the doors in your face then hold it open for you. You cheered me up. Tamara

Hey you! I am glad I cheered you up. I asked the question to my daughter and son-in-law before I posted this. Boy I really started something. I don't mind opening my own door and have opened many a door for men but it is nice when they do it for us. Have a good one, Janet

I am old school so I still will open a door but recently I was entering a building at the same time as some woman and I opened the door and held it for her and she stood there and said "I don't you or any other man to open a door for me, I am fully capable of doing it myself" well that really had me thinking if I was wrong and maybe I should not do it anymore since everything now a days is changing. I really don't know anymore.

Don't change your 'old school' because of one woman. I admire you for that.

Janet I was brought up in a predominantly female family. I was taught politeness, stand up when women entered or left the room, always hold the car door and any other door in fact. I was also taught to cook, wash and iron. Not to speak with my mouth full or eat in the street. I used to have to dress up to go into town with my mother or aunts until I was I my early teens. I still do these things and have found that many women don't appreciate it. That's a shame as I don't see it as patronising, just good manners.

To bad there aren't more men out there such as yourself. And thank you for sharing.
