Lammas falls at the beginning of the harvest season and is generally celebrated on August 1. Apples are ready to to pick, and grain is beginning to ripen. Lammas is also a day for honouring the Celtic craftsman god, Luch. Other names for this Sabbat include First Harvest festival, the Sabbat of first fruit, August eve, Lammastide, Feast of bread and Lughnassadh. The most commonly used name for this sabbat is Lammas, an Anglo-Saxon word meaning "loaf-mass". Depending on your individual spiritual path, there are many different ways you can celebrate Lammas, but typically the focus is on either the early harvest aspect, or the celebration of the Celtic God Lugh. It's the season when the first grains are ripe for the plucking and we are grateful for the food on our tables.
