Will you buy a map when you arrive the destination in your trip?

I will buy a map when I arrive the destination. I think a map is very necessary, although I don't know how to tell the direction. I have to check which are the interesting places to visit or some nice restaurants or shopping zones from the map. At least it will give me a brief guide.

I like a sort of travel guide that has a color map of the country on a double page spread at the front of their books. Then they have a black and white map of each region of the country. They also have black and white maps of each capital or large city, often it has transport maps as well. Considering it has accommodation listings I feel that this sort of guide book offers great value. However when I was in Bulgaria I had one type of map in my guide book but it didn't match the local street names. When in a city I usually visit the local tourist office and often find that these offer basic style maps free. I ask questions like where is the nearest supermarket and the tourist information assistant marks this on my map. I really like looking at maps and planning travel routes. Happy traveling my friend Youless.

Yes, Lonely Planet is exactly the guide book range that I am thinking about. Rough Guides also have some detailed guide books. In my nearest city there is a shop that sells maps and travel guides. I really love to go there because it offers more choice of maps and books than any other shop.

Thank you so very much for giving me the best response. I dug out an old travel guide today to answer a question about Croatia. Then I looked at the map and remembered all the lovely places that I went to.

Hi youless! Yes, I always buy a map when I arrive at my destination. This will help me to find the direction easily and a guide to what and where the places I want to visit. And of course will give me an idea where the nice restaurants are and shopping centers. And these maps that I have purchased of different places, I take home for souvenirs too. Take care and God Bless!

Yes I usually try to do that. Often if its a tourist spot they will have small maps and pamphlets on points of interest at the rest stops along the interstate that are free. I often grab some of those before I get there.

when I went to New Orleans, I had a map before we went. That way I knew where we were to stay and where to visit.

In my past trips, I was lucky since it's always free and we were always given a free ride so, we were able to visit all the tourists spot of the area!

Well, I usually do my preparation beforehand. So that means I usually buy the travel books and map before the trip instead of when I arrive at the destination because that way I get to plan ahead of my trip and where I want to go and stuff. I love to utilize my time and do some research before I travel.

I always get a map before I travel to any place. I like to know where I'm going and get a general idea of what there is to do there. Having a membership over at Triple AAA Auto Club really helps out with maps and stuff to help make trips easier and more pleasant.

Normally I don't buy map. I will study my destination before hand, and most of the time will download portion of maps that are related, or places I wish to visit. And also the fact that mostly I can get free maps from train station or airport, so, it is very unlikely that I will buy map. I do buy travel guide though....and most of them comes with some sort of maps.

I just want to find more travel tips via the net. As to the map, I won't download it because buying a new one is better and not expensive in my opinion.

I get a map together before I leave for a trip so I know the best routes and alternate routes if something happens. When I arrive at my destination I will also be able to find places locally.

we havent travel abroad in more than ten years.. but when we travel locally... my husband and i would normally try to get free maps from the hotel, or from the local tourist information offices.. my husband already keep the latest edition of road directory of our country (which has all the streets, trunk-roads, and hi-way guides).. so.. we need not buy anymore maps unnecessarily...

no, i never was an effective guide or some sort when im with a map. hehehe.. you're completely lost if you're going to let me lead you the way with a map. anyway, i'd rather walk or ask lots of people on the road. that way, it'll be fun that way for sure.

Ofttimes, I don't buy the maps, I simply browse them in the web, if I could find one, the better, if not it is at that time I can buy one

My eyesight isn't good enough to read maps, so i try to get as many written directions as i can, and to buy brochures and pamphlets on the area, to read. My husband can read maps and may want one. If he thinks he needs a map, he'll go and buy one for his own use. He's pretty good at reading maps.

I have travelled 4 times already to other countries. Usually there are free maps and travel guide in the airport of my destination, so I don't buy maps.

I did bring a map with me when i visited Malaysia with my aunt... and it was very helpful in finding the must see places... we walked most of the time... and the we used the map in finding roads that will take us to our destination faster... and i think if i ever visit another country... i will take a map with me... it is more convenient that way...

i will get a map from the tourist counter. those maps are good enough for me to navigate around the place. as i like to travel free & easy, i tend to do research before travelling. usually i will arrive at my destination having a good idea of what i want to do or where i want to visit. the map will aid in my moving around but not much else. cheers ;p
