Autistic kids are just brats!

So that is what Michael Savage says... Autistic = Brat In the words of Michael Savage "99% of the cases, it's a brat who hasn't been told to cut the act out." So… is Mr. Savage saying that children who are diagnosed with Autism are really just brats? Now that just confused me plus got me a little upset… This man obviously doesn’t have any intelligence and he really needs to do his research before he makes comments like that… do you agree? People hear the word "AUTISTIC" and assume the child is a screaming brat.. Well that's not the case and I'm not even going to explain because if you have enough common sense you would know that Autistic kids/adults have a neurological brain disorder. And behavior disorders in most cases. Some might scream when they don't get their way, but that’s not because they are BRATS! And then you have some that don't even speak and sit in a corner and some don't even realize is there… so every Autistic child is different… I think the comment he made was a bad move… He started a riot from what I hear and see on news… and that serves him right for opening his stupid mouth! He also stated on the radio last week "What do you mean they scream and they're silent? They don't have a father around to tell them don't act like a moron. You'll get nowhere in life. Stop acting like a putz. Straighten up. Act like a man. Don't sit there crying and screaming, you idiot." Here is a link below on one of the articals about the situation http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/07/21/right-wing-radio-host-mic_n_114184.html You can google more on it if you need more info… I heard several viewers of his radio show are wanting him fired for making the comment and a lot of protesters are on a riot… What are your views on this situation?

I am totally outraged. Apparently this person knows nothing about autism. I have a brother who is autistic and he neither screams or is a brat. The man should be fired for his stupidity and insensitivity.

I was outraged as well when I heard what this arrogant bleep said. I have also done some more research on him and that just makes me more outraged because he is refusing to apoligize to the public and is still making remarks about Autistic children and the parents as well. Michael Savage is a nationally syndicated radical host who makes a living trying to offend as many people as possible, and now he has moved onto autism and autistic children. So sad...

That man is a total idiot! Autistic people have a different way of viewing reality. They're usually disconnected from what we experience as real is all. My wife has Asperger's, a form of high-functioning autism. She definitely views the world differently than I do and that's been a very good thing. Many people with autism usually have a compensating ability such as savantism.

Mr. Savage is an idiot, thats for sure.. He is still ranting and making bad remarks and still hasn't apologized to the public for his comments that offended millions of people and that right there shows what a jerk he is.

I think he is going to get alot of bad publicity for that one. You don't critize people with a disorder like that. I would not be surprised if he does get fired, if not sued. I think he needs to act like a grown up. He should know what he is talking about before opening his mouth and inserting foot.

That man's head needed to be mounted over the Devil's fireplace!!! I see that my husband Vladilyich1 is the first to comment on this one. He had a bit of a problem understanding me at first until I explained myself to him, and we figured it out together. Now we are an amazing team.

Michael Savage is a moron. The more reading I do about him the angrier I get. He never seems to say the right thing - ever! He is constantly insulting people and he should not hold a job position like that. I feel sorry for any young children who read his insensitive comments about this.

Ooh, I got to check this one and kick if I could I smack some senses into him. I say he needs to live a week and be the primary care taker of an autistic child and lets see what he says then. This guy is ignorant beyonD belief. If anybody lived and had to care for an autistic child will have tears streaming down their face when the child accomplishes the simplest task such as saying : "I need help pls". It took my daughter 1 year to learn to request for help, granted this was with the help of several therapist in place. yes she is autistic and everyone who says she is a spoiled brat. I shoved the reading pamplet for them to read and never speak to me again until they educate themselves. What does he say with the kids that are silent and instead of crying and screaming, they silently sit in the corner and watch ant walk by for the last 30 minutes? or the kid who is silently sitting by him/or herself and have no friends. They are not crying? I wonder what he thinks of them? These are autistic behaviors too, they have serious social problem. My daughter would not play with other children at all and always wanted to be alone. I used to cry and did not know what happen and why she was this way, until she was diagnosed.

Prefere brat over Autism? I don't. I love the way my child is and wouldn't want anything else. As for your comment on what he thinks about the silent Autistic types... I'm not sure, I did wonder that myself because my son is mute and keeps to himself a lot. I guess people just need to educate themself more because every Autistic person is different and there are so many different signs and so on.

The lady on the article is right "I wish I had a brat too". It would have made my life easier. I prefer brat over autism, but if that is what my daughter has. I embrace them for who she is and praise her for what she can accomplish and not count the things she cannot accomplish. I count my blessings every day because she can and has continued to progress and accomplish things. Though they are not age appropriate but at least it is goal appropriate because those are our goals as a family. This man should get fired!

Yep, knowledge is a powerful too. I even think doctors- pediatrician in general Talking about doctors, I got a big mess there and it gets me all angry again thinking about my battle with my daughter's doctor. You are right all children are different and because they are different they are just as special. if my daughter was only a brat, then It won't hurt me as much when somebody looks at me and her and think I am kidnapping my own daughter from the market or something. Sometimes she has a fit and I try to pick her up and get away from the place, but she will scream and try to run away from me. So everyone looks at me like, I should keep her quiet while others think I am hurting her. So if I had a brat the rest of them seem to think, I don't know how to be a mother. Which is fine with me. ! I rather have them misjudge me, it does not hurt. but it hurts when they judge my daughter and give her those mean looks.
