Is it possible to convert ordinary metal like steel,iron,brass into gold.

This belief was popular with early alchemists. They experimented frequently using all sorts of chemicals in combination with heat. Not a single one was successful. In other words, it's possible, but highly impractical. All attempts would only be made on a nuclear level, which would require enormous amounts of energy to combine the nuclei of two elements to form a different nucleus. Neutron irradiation is an alternative but good luck trying to find a cheaper element in front of gold on the periodic table worthy to irradiate. And all this would seem illogical when you can just buy gold for cheaper than it would cost to run the machines. So solely from a chemical aspect, NO.
