Quite a number of years ago someone invented a piece of mechanical equipment that became very popular. At the time several names were proposed for this device, such as clavier imprimeur and cembalo scrivano. One last clue, this machine is almost extinct now. What is it?

Yea, wiki would work! What, is that a code name for the internet - WWW. I think we are on to something here. Do me a favor though, and don't let the cat out of the bag. Speaking of cat jokes... Never mind.

Hi djbtol. The problem with riddles is, they get answered to quickly and then it is all over. I was going to guess at this one, but after reading the first reply, there was no point. My guess was wrong anyway. I like riddles and if you post more maybe you could not tell whether or not the answer is correct until the end of the post, or at least until the tenth page. Thanks for posting riddles.

Well my friend, for a + I will give you one more part to your answer. It was a manual typewriter, as opposed to electric!

Good point. For those who lived in the era of typewriters, there was a big difference between manual and electric. Than manual return lever was kind of neat, though. Now most people would just lump them into the same pot. Thanks
