I have just returned from Ireland where I met the author Patrick Dunne and was fortunate enough to be shown around some of the places, which feature in his thrillers. Have you ever explored places referred to in books? Does it make the novel 'come alive' to you or do you find it spoils the imagination? all the best urban

I have not delibertly explored any place referred to in novels as I have not had the opportunity to do so. However, several years ago, I was on a girl scout trip to Washington D.C. While there, we went on a night tour of the city. During this tour, our tour guide took us to Georgetown University. At one point, the tour guide pointed out a staircase which lead up to the University and explained to us that it was the staircase in which some priest was thrown down as shown in the movie, "The Exorcist", and as referred to in the book, "The Exorcist" in which the movie was made after. Now to be clear, I have never watched the movie or read the book of "The Exorcist" as I do not get into horror that much. So to that point, for my experience, it neither spoiled the imagination, or made the story come alive, or anything else since I had not read it anyway.
