What does your street sign look like?

This really looks like a stupid question, but hear me out a bit. We went to a family reunion today that was out of town (out of state actually) and I'd only been to this place once before, about 4 years ago. We got pretty lost, our Yahoo directions were telling us what streets to turn on and we just didn't see them. Well, I don't know that it was totally the Yahoo Maps fault... The town we were in had the STUPIDEST street signs. They only had the name of the intersecting street on them, not the street you were driving on. Now, normally, all you need is the intersecting street, but when the street you are driving on turns into a different street you need to know this. Yahoo Maps would say "Continue on such-and-such street" which is different from the street you originally turned onto. We had no way of knowing what street we were on after a while. We turned around, called my mom and she goes "What street are you on?" My response - "I HAVE NO CLUE!" I could tell her the name of the cross street, but not the street I was on because it wasn't on the street signs. Now, this is a little po-dunk town, everyone knows everyone and they all knew we were lost I'm sure. But I was really amazed that the street signs were like this. Ours - even in my neighborhood - have both street names on the sign. My cousin laughed and said "That's how we keep people out." So, do your street signs have both street names on them or just the one that's intersecting it?

Our city has both street names on the signs. That way we can say go the corner of Gail CT and Rambler road and map quest could get you there.

OH MY GOSH! You so should not have said that!!! I went to Yahoo Maps and just typed in those streets and it went where it looks like you might live... Good thing I'm not a stalker or when I'm out that way next month I might have to come look you up. (un)Fortunately, I'm going to be much south of you and not have the time, but I'd love to stop by if I could...

LOL honestly I shouldn't laugh but i just have to, as far as i know only one of the street signs here in town has both street names on it and thats the corner of Wichita and High street . Could have something to do with there only being 4 streets in the whole town. Most of the signs are gone tho ,the kids from one of the towns close to here steals the street signs . Mainly the main street in town High street , or the one we live on which is Gay street. They dont seem to mess with the Wichita sign. I dont think there is even a sign for Dodge road.

Well, at least when I put in your intersections Yahoo Maps asked me for what county, so I wont chastize you as bad. Please be careful in posting that (innocent) information on the web... As for your signs, as long as visitors know where they're going, it isn't a bad thing to have only one street name. But when we're travelling and have no clue where we're going, it's not so easy. Talk to your town council or something and see if they can change it???

We are a town of 11 people when everyone is home.lol We dont have a town council or a mayor for that matter. The closest we come to any of that is our treasurer who collects money for the water bills . And that money is for repairs to the (LMAO) what passes for a water tower and the pipes to and from.

Wow, I've never lived in a place that small before (population wise). I'm sure it's very quiet!

It depends on where you are in the city what the signs are like. In some places there are only signs for the cross streets and in some there are signs for both streets. Some of the busier streets don't have signs on every corner but they are usually found more in the residential areas.

I remember the last time I went to North Carolina to visit my friend. I was looking for the street signs and couldn't find them. The street was 3 lanes going each way, with a median inbetween. The street signs were over on the corner of the other side of the street and they were the little ones you see in residential areas. Needless to say we missed the turn and had to backtrack.

I hate to find signs like that with just one street on them. Our street sign has both street names on them UNLESS someone or something has taken one off for their own personal use or knocked down and not replaced by the city.

Ours sometimes get turned around, either by accidents or the kids goofing off with them. That can get a bit confusing. But, it'll have both streets on it still so you know that if you're on the one street, the sign will show you that the other one intersects.

Ours does have the street name on both sides of the sign. I have seen them in the city though where you can only see one side of the sign at the time.

When we're downtown, a lot of streets have the intersecting streets on a sign off the pole where the light is - up in the air. But it will have it on the other street too so you can see them both. I think it's confusing (unless you know where you are) to have just the intersecting street.

That sounds like it should be easy to see and everyone can find you!
