Is it ok to be over protective with your kids

I'm a father w/ a 2 year old daughter and she's the world to me. Sometimes I'm way to anal when it comes to her well being. My thought is that it's ok to anal because you don't want anything to happen to them but at the same time i don't want to be anal because because i want my kid to learn on her own, trial and error. the hardest part is balancing when and when not to be anal
