drinks are bigger but i thought they were getting weaker??

there was a study that is saying that bars are making their drinks bigger than standard so you need to drink less in quantity because it equals out to be the same.. the last couple of years i have been getting mostly weak drinks so i figured bars were saving money and scrimping on the alcohol.. but then the like last 2 times i ordered they seemed extra strong.. now all of these places i have gone and got all different varieties in strength are not the same so when the weak period was going there were several places at once.. and the last 2 times were different places also are they making them stronger and bigger? or just bigger according to study and it depends on the bar? was it just a coincidence i went through a few years of nothing but weak ones? you would think with all the businesses being struck with bad economy NOW would be the time to weaken and make them smaller.. makes no sense
