Jury Duty

Don't you think that jury duty should be a choice? I always get it but never can do it b/c I have no one to watch my kids. I think they should get volunteers to do it or make it some peoples community service for doing something wrong. Or can't they get some people from those temp agencies? I'm not even registered to vote so why should I be getting the letters. Then I never use to get them when I didn't have kids. Now that I have kids I get them all the time. I didn't have my first child until I was 26 so they could of sent me them then. I would of had to get out of work but it would of been easier then finding a babysitter.

I believe they get the jury duty candidates from driver licence numbers now. I don't know if they would use it as community service, these people usually break laws, don't they? I've been called twice in my years and one time I got it dismissed due to a bad chest cold. I had to call to check to see if I had to report and I guess my voice convinced them that I was ill. I would think that having small children would be a good reason for not being able to attend.

I always have to call and tell them I can't make it in but it seems like I get it again as soon as I call in and say I can't make it due to not having a babysitter.

Oh and as far as the community service I was talking about people who did little things but yes breaking laws maybe once they have to serve jury duty a couple of times they won't do it again lol.

I think it should definetly be a choice. Personally I would not wanna go, I don't like the idea of having to choose whether a person is innocent or not.. what if you chose wrongly and an innocent person goes to jail?? I don't want that burden.

Your right and what if they come and hunt you down once they are released b/c you put them in jail or have someone to come looking for you.

Jury duty is all of our civic duty. I do not think they should get someone who has broken the law to decide what punishment another person has who also has broken the law. The counties and cities are broke now let alone try to pay someone to be on a jury duty would not work also. I think you should be just like the rest of us and do you civic duty. Now here in my county if you have served on a jury when have severed on a civil and criminaljury the judge will let you stay or go. I was on a civil case so I have to be on a criminal case and I will not have to serve again if I do not want to. I will still have to go to the jury room, I will still have to sit through the proceedings. I just do not have to stay for the trial if I am picked to be a juror.

I'm not talking about people who have murdered someone then they shouldnt' even be out of jail. I am talking about people who have DUI's as part of their community service.

Do you think that someone who has broken the law and might be mad at law enforcement can be an empirical juror?
