Who was the best singer from American Idol?

i say it is david cook, i am watching american idol since clarkson days but never did i hear anyone as original as David Cook he dont only sings well but he has this special courage reflected in his choice of songs...and i think that what makes him the best for me and for others who voted him as american idol..he is a phenomena!!he rocks... sounds like a big fan here huh lols..

I would say Carrie Underwood and then Kelly Clarkson.

I've been watching AI since it started, since then Kelly Clarkson is still the best AI, not until when David Cook came and he's now my ultimate American Idol winner. the way I see this guy perform is that he's not taking singing as merely a performance, when he sings it seems like he is in his own world, like he's just strumming his guitar at a quiet corner of his room, thinking deeply and expressing what he feels through singing, he sings from the soul and breathes his own music, he seems genuine and humble on stage and yet doesn't know how much he has touched a lot of people.. as Paula Abdul said.. "David, you're IT.. you're just IT!"

David Cook. I think he's the only competitor in all of the seasons who has provided different flavors in performance nights. :P *David Cook fan* Definitely. Lol

I would say it's kelly because of her success. But I would love to see David Cook achieving his dreams, making albums and getting awards.

I didn't keep up with it for quite a while, but hands down Carrie Underwood. She has an amazing voice.
