I need a cheap way to cover a window that will still look good, I have a few sheets and a sewing machine. I want to cover the living room window to keep the sun out. The sun hits it all day and it gets very hot in the living room.

Um you could look up some of those decorating sites like HGTV to see if they have ideas for sheets and sewing machines. I am in the process of decorating my room but dont have a whole lot toplay with money wise thats where I go for ideas.

How about putting some tinted or mirror contact on the window to make the sun bounce off? That way you wouldn't need to put a curtain there. We did it on our front door and it works really well. I guess another way would be to use a pretty doona or quilt cover that has a pattern on it, to make it look like a curtain. It's less flimsy than a sheet and able to cut out more sun as it has a double layer. Make sure you use a dark colour sheet as light colours will just enable more light. The brighter it is in the room, the hotter it will be.

Making curtains out of sheets is very frugal! You could also make some throw pillows out of the same sheets to have coordinating accessories for the room. Shopping at secondhand stores, rummage sales, and thrift shops is another way to get cheap stuff for decorating!
