Does tilapia fry well? What is the best way to go about frying it. I am thinking I want fish bits rather than whole fillets, do I need them partially frozen to cut into bits? How do you get fish bits?

i saw a recipe that after you clean the fish with lime juice then dry with a napkin. put you seasonings on it and let it set. then you fry it.

clean it with lime juice? I have never heard of that. I was just going to bread it with a flour, salt, pepper and old bay mix then fry it up.

use water to clean and also lime juice to remove bacteria. then you season both sides of the fish with seasoned salt, tumeric powder, garlic, black and red cayenne pepper.

Yes it does fry well. It is one of the few fish I actually like and my favorite way to have it is to coat it it fine corn flour (looks like corn mile but milled finer) that is mixed with a little paprika, salt and pepper. It fries up really well. There is a product called Louisianan Fish Fry that is a pre mixed version of what I just described. They also have one that has a lemon flavor that is really good.

Old Bay is good. Taste good on fish, chicken and pork. I tried it on beef once but it was a little strange flavored there.

Old bay is amazing on chicken. I love it with the simple dish of rubbing butter on the chicken, sprinkle with old bay and bake until done. Oh man is that fabulous and so easy!

I am thinking old bay seasoning, since it is a seafood based spice mix. I am also contemplating trying it in chicken since it is great on baked chicken.

Hi, I enjoy deep-fried tilapia. I can't cook this dish, but we have it in the restaurants and food-stores, and it's very good! They would deep-fry the whole fish, add in light soya sauce and sliced chillies, browned sliced garlic and onions.

Tilapia is a good fish to fry. I have always liked fishing, I grew up fishing, since there is a huge lake in the back of my moms' house. We would spend all our summers and most weekends back there. Anyways, you might want to try something like cornmeal to fry this type of fishy. It's just like making fried chicken except with fish. You can also use flour but, I don't recommend it because flour burns faster. You can make fish bits or nuggets as we call them just by cutting your fillet into chunks, and I think it's easier to cut if it's thawed and fresh.

Thank you for answering! Corn meal huh? I could do that. Although I'd think if I can make chicken with flour and it not burn I think fish would because it cooks faster doesn't it? I am not even sure how long to fry it. Guess I better visit cook.com before then. As for the fish itself, I am working with frozen. That is the only way I can get fish. lol.

If you can fry the fish with flour and it doesn't burn well then go for it, as for the frying part, just fry until the fish looks golden brown on both sides.

I will try it as I don't have corn flour.
