How long does a built-in ethernet last?

I have an hp pavillion desktop and after a year the built-in ethernet that comes along with it just failed to detect the cable for our wireless broadband used for internet connection. I have installed a separate lan card and the connection did work out just fine. But the pc can still detect the buily-in one displaying its status as okay. What is its problem, can it still work?

Hi Kate, I been using my built-in ethernet card for almost 3 year now and as far as I know those one don't easily burnt out unless a current surge from lightning. Try uninstalling the drivers then reboot, window will auto-detect it and install the necessary driver. Now try plugging the cable again and see, else then maybe that's one of the exception. You can disable the device in device manager so that its status will not be shown. Good luck.

Yes, thanks. I did just that but still the same. Maybe I have to try something else. Good day!

I'm glad that your LAN is working now from your recent comment. I wonder though how you did it, anyway thanks for the mark.
