football is a contact sport but have we gone to far with the rule changes over the past decade or so in the amount of contact we allow. when i started playing i was a keeper and we were still considered part of the ball eg getting barged over the line with the ball in our hands.now we are told that you cannot challenge the keeper.this is just one of the many changes in contact allowed.so have we gone to far and taken something out of the sport.

but they also didnt have a "offside" rule, which is in todays soccer a fundamental part of it ... without it there will a lot of goals which is good for fans and players but not for a real tactical skills

the "offside" is relatively new and it has altered the style of play gone are the days of the goal poacher.would like to see that done away with. with my refs head i would dearly love to see it done away with.the amount of problems it causes in a game are unbelievable even when you have so called world class officials on the line.it is still questioned as to who is right or wrong.

Of course they've gone soft. Back in the days when England won the world cup, they were real men. They stopped at half-time for a smoke and a pint, and then got on with the job again. They didn't have personal trainers and physiotherapists, they had a wet sponge. And then they got up and scored, gaping scalp wound or no.

I agree to a point but the problem lies with the players, who fall down in agony at the slightest touch. There is also the problem of young players especially being deliberately injured, which is wrong. It is a difficult one as there is such a fine line between deliberately trying to really hurt another player and accidental injuring. While we can't have players being injured unnecessarily, it does lead to a situation were a team will lose a match from not being agressive enough and the other team taking advantage.
