We have had fish before but only Gold Fish and those ones that suck against the tank. I am wanting to get fish again. What is a nice looking fish that is easy to raise. I would like to have something colorful. I dont really want to have the salt water fish. Can anyone give me some advice on what kind to purchase and what supplies I will need to care for them? Also there is no pets stores close so I will have to transport the fish at least 2 hours. Will they survive that long?

The only fish I can think of that has color to them and are pretty are fancy guppies. As far as caring for them, you would do the same as with any fish. The proper food, filter system for the tank and making sure your water is fine. As far as transporting them for two hours, they will survive, but you will need to let the salesperson bagging them know how long they will be in the bag so they can make sure there is enough air in the bag.

I would buy tropical non aggressive fish. They have them marked that way at Petsmart, and will help at other pet stores.

I used to always like the red and white ones, I used to have one that was nearly all white with red lips it just looked like it had lipstick on, my friend bought it for me and another as well and he named them Harold and Maud after his favourite movie, Maude went on to live for about 12months which was about the longest living fish i had...

try guppies.. its small and colorful.. it is also easy to take good care.. also easy to breed, just dont mix them with other kinds of fish.. I dont know what fish can live with guppies.. try Koi / Kois if you can make a pond, I just dont know if they can live in aquariums.. but they are easy to take care..

The ones that you had in the pic you added are called discus they are beautiful but very expensive and very hard to keep alive. I would suggest you start with some very hardy simple and cheap Mollys. They come in many colors and variations and close to impossible to kill. Once you have masterd the molly then start to branch out from there. I would also start with a midsized tank something to small and it can be finiky but to large and your talking big bucks. Don't forget to treat the water and cycle the tank a few days before you bring home the fish.
