It looks like it's time for a specialist...

Some of you know that I've been having some problems breathing lately - about 3 weeks now. I spent the day in the hospital 2 weeks ago and they didn't know what was going on. I've been put on an inhaler by my regular doctor to see if that would help. It did for a while, but I'm in week 2 of the inhaler and I'm almost back to where I was before. It's just really hard for me to get a good breath. So today I've called my doctor back and told her that I'm starting to get worse again instead of better - and I'm not even done with my inhaler for a couple more days. She's giving me a referral for a pulmonologist (sp) and hopefully they can figure out what's going on with me!!! I'm also hoping that I can get in to see this new doctor in the next couple days. We're leaving for a 10-day trip to the west coast next week and I'd like to know SOMETHING before I go... I am so not looking forward to this.

Hey reiny, don't worry just get in there to see the doc. They'll be able to help you. I hope you will be able to go before your trip so you won't have to be uncomfortable while you're on vacation. I hope you don't smoke. Nah, you don't do that. It's not allergies, is it? Go to the pulmonologist. He will be able to figure it out and maybe give you a different type of treatment to help you breathe easier. I do hope you are feeling better soon so that you can enjoy your trip. I know how much you have been lookin forward to it.

I had a friend with lots of breathing difficulties with allergies, sinuses and breathing, etc. When they got to the bottom of it she had a fungus in her sinuses. There was a med that took care of that, though.

Gosh reiny I am so sorry to hear you are not doing any better. I was hopping you where would be well and your breathing problems would not happen again. I am glad you are going to a pulmonologist. I hope he/she can find out what is going on with you before you go on vacation. Good luck girlfriends.

Well, as of today, it's been going on 4 weeks. It's mostly just irritating me, but it's really starting to get on my nerves! We went and got my x-rays from the hospital on the way to our family reunion Friday. I'm hoping they can figure SOMETHING out tomorrow - although I'm sure I'm in for a huge round of more tests. I'll definitely keep everyone updated!

I just went back to the pulmonologist yesterday and they had the results of all my tests. I'm about as healthy as a person can get. My lungs are in excellent shape. He has no clue - other than stress - as to what's wrong. He suggested I get a second opinion if my health insurance will cover it. I'll do that and then most likely have to go on anti-depressants (I don't know why because my life is way too wonderful lately!).

I am glad that the doctor is giving you a referral so quickly, and yes, I hope that there is an opening for you with that specialist. So this is going on even in your own home now, not just on trips. What kind of inhaler do you have, albuterol, or something else, like advair? I am medically nosy, but you do not need to tell me, unless you want to.

Hey, I'm nosey too!!! They gave me albuterol in a breathing treatment at the hospital, that did nothing. My doctor gave me a 2-week trial of advair for the steriods, thinking that would help my bronchial tubes. I was getting better for about a week, but now it's not working (if it even was). The first lung place I called said new patient appointments are in September. The second place I called can see me Monday - I hope I can get my hospital records from last month in time! This should be way fun.

Yeah, I don't think I'm going to do any of my walking, or I might just do every other day... This weekend I'll be camping and I'll be going up and down this steep hill all weekend... But, the weather there is a bit different so maybe that will help me out a bit...
