Recommend some mind-blowing fiction

Can any myLotters recommend some fiction that really changed the way they thought about the world and/or life in general? Recently, I was told to read I, Claudius by a friend, but I can't say that really changes my worldview; if anything, it confirms my cynicism that the world, especially politics, is filled with backstabbing, gossipy fellows. However, anything along Vonnegut's veins I have really enjoyed--just finished Slapstick and have to say I liked his quirky writing style.
