my great great uncle Cornelius J Petleback was a 'gumshoe' detective in Chicago in the 1930's.
he was originally a police detective but lost his job after an enquiry found him guilty of neglict after his cop car was stolen while he was asleep in the back seat. he swore he was paraylised after being stung by the rare peruvian paralysing wasp but he was slung out none the less.
his most famous case as a private detective was in 1933 when he trapped the then renown 'farting cat burgler' who always let off a stink bomb before he left the scene of the crime. he trapped him in a lift and needed 3 tanks of oxygen by the time the police got the lift doors opened.

My great great grandfather was banished from Eastern Canada for stealing horses. He ended up in the Western part of Canada. He put down roots. He raised a family. He got wealthy and they named a major street after him in the Capital city. Further research shows, however, that there used to be a smaller sign attached to the street sign with his name on it that read "NO HORSES ALLOWED"! LOL Guess he made his money in the West the same way he did in the East. Weterners are so much more forgiving if your horse is faster than theirs! ROFL

I don't know if this counts, but my cousin was Miss New Jersey in 1945, the year that Bess Myerson was crowned Miss America. My cousin was a runner-up.

Are you and I related? LOL Both situations you descibed above sound like they could have happened to y friggen family, or my husband's friggen family.
