I use yahoomail. There I have a option of filtering messages to a folder directly. I recently opened an account in gmail and I want to know is it possible to filter the messages to a folder, like I do in Yahoo. Can anyone there, who can tell me how to filter the messages in gmail.

Unfortunately in gmail you can't even create folders. I dislike gmail for it's limited organization options.

No folders, but you can add labels, which is exactly the same option. I'm not sure which Gmail the above user is using, but the one I've used for years automatically sorts my email from various places into labels, and puts up a list at the side indicating how many are unread in each category.

You cannot not do folders on a web based gamil, fortunately gmail support POP3 so you can only do this on an email client like outlook express or thunderbird. Here you can set filters then move them to your designated folders.
