Just wondering, i did and have questions on how to deal with mood swings and hot flashes. As my ins. company will not pay for the meds.

Several of my good friends have had hysterectomies. I wonder why your insurance co.will not pay for meds? There are over the counter compounds made with plant sources, called phytoestrogens. Also there's foods and herbs. Mexican yams are one good source my friend uses. But its not only about estrogen, there's progesterone and alittle testosterone involved also. There are topical creams with phytoestrogens, and other "menopause" supplements that might help.

I've already been through menopause, and I do not take estrogen pills, but I do use phytoestrogen from plant sources. A sence of humor sometimes helps, hot flashes in winter cut down on my heating bill! LOL~

I just had one about six weeks ago and i can't believe what i have gone through. I am in Canada and i wasn't given any meds either. I havent' had menopausal experience yet. I am only 37 yrs but it is normal to get it earlier. There are alot of way so to deal with the mood swings. DO you have children?? what type of hysterectomy did you have?/ A full one? including the ovaries taken out? Noelle

Yes. I had surgery when I was 23. Total hysterectomy/oopherectomy. I went through a bad time with menopause. There are several herbs and matural food sources that may help. Black Cohosh is one. The thing that helped me the most though was soy. I ate chinese food quite a bit. I even put soy sauce on other foods. Be careful of your salt intake though! As far as mood swings, just take it day by day. I hope your husband is very understanding,(assuming you are married). Go to your nearest Health Food store or GNC. They were really helpful!! Good Luck! p.s. Be glad you were able to have children first...

As far as HRT therapy, most doctors don't like you to be on that for long term anyway. So you would have to go through the stages again when you needed to get off of them anyways.
