What materials are used in making your floor and which one do you think is the best for cold weather?

I have hardwood floors in my house. I have no idea what particular type of wood, though. If I could afford to build my dreamhome, I would have concrete floors with the heating underneath, but I can't remember what the actual term for this is. I think this would be the best type of floor for either winter or summer.
