What's the big deal?

Why is it that every time we think that our government is doing something for us it ends up being against us? Taxes have gone up, gas, food and a lot of other things have gone up also in the past year or so. It is getting to the point where we can't even survive in our own homes anymore. There are more and more people out of work and homes being foreclosed on and it is getting ridiculous! So, my question is: What the heck does the government think they are doing? Sure as heck aren't helping. (Sorry, this probable should have gone under politics)
