Is aggressiveness required to be a successful captain?

I have wondered why certain captains fail. When you look at Gavaskar, Dravid, and others of India, Pollock and others from S.Africa, Attapatu from SriLanka, .... all have been passive and not been very successful at the helm of affairs as captain. Do you think aggressiveness is such an essential ingredient to be a successful captain? Examples can be Kapil Dev, Ganguly, Dhoni from India, Pointing & many others from Australia, and many more. Whats your feeling / views?
