Long before there were MP3s, iPods, CDs, cassettes, and even 8-tracks (!) there was vinyl records. Who can forget the days when you could go to an actual ”record” store and fondle the latest albums while enjoying their beautiful album covers? I remember hanging album covers up on my walls as posters! LOL It amazes me when I substitute teach in music and a pull out of a record. Some of them are like what is that or others will say my grandmom has those! LOL My brother-in-law must have thousands of albums in his house. I am just amazed at them all. I'm glad they are in his house and not mine. LOL

My older brother use to buy vinyl records and had quite a collection. I'm not sure what happened to them actually but I wish I had a few as souvenirs.

I know I had one vinyl album left back in the 1990's, only because it was a autographed album from one of my teenage crushes! I stored it wrong in storage and it got warped. That's a bummer about your brother's albums. My brother had that happen with old 8mm home movies, he doesn't know what happened to them during his first marriage.

I have some of those myself... I don't think I'm THAT old but old enough, lol... I remember listening to what me & my friends used to call, "donuts", 45's I think?... I think they actually sound better...

I never heard a 45 called a donut. Interesting. I remember the little plastic thing you had to put on the "newer" turntables so the 45's could play. Thanks for the response.

Yeah... Because 45's had bigger hole in the middle & we needed plastic thing to put in the middle, remember? Yup, called it donut for that reason... Cause it looked like donut with bigger hole & smaller record... lol...

remember them? I still use them, lol. you have to change them a bit more frequently and there is a lot of "white noise" but you know, I love that noise on an lp. the kids enjoy when we look through the albums and play favorites. they bring back memories for me too - of my childhood - my father played music quite often (he bought records which he recorded to cassette as a back up and to reel to reel for everyday playing - with the reel to reel he would not have to change them for hours.) I have numerous albums that were once my fathers so I enjoy those solemn moments and often a good cry.

Hi kimbers867. Yes, I do remember vinyl records. And I played them over and over for many years. Record collections used to be a very big deal. Sadly, before we moved down here from up north, my husband and I both threw away our giant stacks of albums, into our garbage can to be picked up by the garbage men. Can you believe that? They must have been worth a mint. We just had to trim back a bunch of our personal belongings and things like that had to go. I miss my vinyl records!

Oh wow! It's a shame you couldn't give them to someone. I bet this was before Freecycle. Thanks for the response Pearl!

I surely do remember them. We had albums and 45s, and wasn't there something in between for a while too? 78s or something? Remember the little plastic things you had to put in your 45s to play on a lot of record players? Do you remember being able to put on several records at a time and one would drop when the last one was done playing? We thought that was such magnificent technology!

I think they were 78's. But I never saw one. Too funny about the plastic thingy, I mentioned that in one of my responses above. I do remember yellow ones. LOL Yes I remember getting a stereo and being able to stack the records. That was so cool!!! I know I can't believe how technology has changed. I was always in awe of my grand aunt growing up because she was born in 1899 and saw a lot of things invented!

Hey Kimbers, Yep I remember them and still have mine! lol I also have the 45's! Only thing I don't have is the needle to play them on. I have the record player, but the needle broke off several years ago, and I will not throw out the turn table, as I am hoping to one day get the needle, don't know from where though. I have Donny Osmond records from when he first came out! Man was that a long time ago! Thanks for the memories!
