What happens after death?

Hi all
What happens to our souls after death? How and by whom is it decided whether we'll go to heaven or hell or take a rebirth? If we take a re birth, where and when i'll born? Do you have any ideas regarding what different philosophers say?

I don't think anyone can say where we go for sure. It's a difficult thing to process. Most of us like to believe that there is happiness on the other side. But what if that's not so? I keep an open mind about this subject because I wouldn't want my hopes to fall short. That would destroy me completely.
