Is a dwarf and an elf the same?

dwarfs are short and bulky guys, good in mining and handling axe, while elves are tall ones with pointy ears and keen eyes good in archery .. this is as per JRR Tolkein

They are way different. Some elves are not short. The elves described by Tolkien and many others were tall, the same height or taller than men. Elves are usually long and slender, dwarfs are usually shorter and more stocky. Dwarfs are usually an underground people, miners. Elves cannot stand to be enclosed underground, they are nature loving creatures and prefer open spaces and forests.
