No matter what language you learn, it is still beneficial to learn English since it is international. It is an edge to a good employment here in Phil. and abroad.

I speak German as my native language. I learned English in school as a requirement starting 5th grade. We were required to learn a foreign language since the occupation after WWII. The areas occupied by the Brits and Americans learned English as their first foreign language, the ones occupied by the French had French, and East Germans learned Russian. Then in seventh grade we were required to take a second foreign language where we could either chose Latin or French in my area. I chose Latin as it is the base for many languages in the mediterranian area. It also allowed me to take French in ninth grade, which was voluntary (those who chose French in seventh grade couldn't take Latin until 11th grade). Btw, proficient knowledge of Latin is a requirement for many academic degrees at a German university. Anyhow, I also learned a bit of Italian, Russian, Arabic, and Japanese. Unfortunately, due to time limitations, I couldn't pursue it any further. I would like to learn Spanish, Russian, Arabics, and Chinese properly. I guess, I'll tackle that, when my kids are grown;)
