Good free mmorpgs?

I was looking around for a good free mmorpg (massively multiplayer online roll playing game). One with fairly low system requirements and still having decent graphics and decent environment. Not necessarily in to the monotonous continual hack and slash thing, I like a lot more to my games than just that, I want good action, but I want some thinking as well, maybe a social structure, a political structure or economic structure to it as well. I have gone through a couple websites that list a bunch of them but they all look the same and it is hard to get an idea unless you talk to someone who played them or knows something about them. SO, any suggestions? I have already tried knight, silk road, second life and a few others, but before I download a ton more, I'd like some input to narrow the field.

Hey, You should definitely try Runescape. It has two detail modes, both customizable further. The ordinary mode runs fine on my stupid desktop. And the High Detail mode, which runs on my laptop(afraid to try on my desktop) is just amazing. It doesn't take much bandwidth. You don't have to install the game. It's playable off the website. The first run takes some time as the texture files are cached on your hard drive, but it's not much. The game has 100s of fun quests. More than 20 different skills like attack, defense, strength, summoning, magic, range, woodcutting, fishing, firemaking, mining, smithing, and many more. The best part is that you don't choose a particular 'class(like warrior, mage, archer)' for your character. If you weild a sword and wear metal armour, you are a warrior. If you weild a bow, you become a ranger. If you get a staff, you become a mage. It's A LOT OF FUN!!! The chat system is strong. You can add people as friends, form your own clans. There's as such no political structure but the economical structure is amazing. There's a 'Grand Exchange' in the game where you trade all the goods, and the prices are decided by Demand and Supply. You should try the game by becoming a free member. If you like it, become a paid member, if you don't like it, then stop playing it. But I'm sure you'll like it. Cheers!
