when recieving a item you brought....

if the item is listed as a gift do i have to pay tax on the item if it was sent as a gift to me

Once I bought a digital camera and the seller send it to me like a gift, but I had to pay for taxes. I do not understand exactly why I had to pay for taxes although it was marked as a gift. It was a very expansive item.

As far as I know, if it's a gift there is no tax. That's why a lot of sellers would tell the buyers that it will be labeled as a gift to avoid paying that.
