appreciating the songs you can't understand

here in the philippines, there is a so-called korean wave. and because of this, there is an influx of korean shows being shown in the country. obviously, those shows have their own theme songs and once the show hits, it seems like the theme song of that show will be the LSS of every one in town. now, i am just wondering if you can appreciate a song written and sung in a language you cannot understand.

well.. i do.. i like listening to J-pop (japanese pop), mostly animé songs. to me, music is not just the lyrics of the song. its the melody of the song, and the impact it makes to my ears. i listen to korean music (byul and rain) too, but not much.. like i always say.. j-pop is pretty much the same as listening to rap music by bone thugs n' harmony (i love their music, which is in every way english). it is in english, but you can't understand the lyrics (due to the rapid beats of the songs). c",)

i simply agree. the language used should not be the only factor to be considered in liking something. but it is definitely hard if there's a language barrier. actually, i am 50-50 on this. there are times that i feel like listening to songs i cannot understand. but there are times that i feel like a fool for appreciating something i cannot understand.

hmmm.. i don't think "fool" is the word for it. lets think of it as an art. when you look at a painting, you don't necessarily appreciate the image itself(and thats simply because many tend to look only at the image, and not the meaning of the painting), but you appreciate the painting as a whole. you appreciate the colors, the depth, and whatever you see in that particular painting. pretty much like foreign songs.. you don't actually appreciate the lyrics because you can't really understand them, but appreciate the song as a whole. c',)

I don't listen to Korean songs or any other foreign song. Because I could not understand it. & I dunno how to understand it.

thanks for replying. there are times that i have this (your) logic. it's really hard to appreciate something you cannot understand.
